Deep Blue
The knight put up his shoes and leaned back “Oh another day of L moves. I wish I could do more and go out into the field”
The rook grunted “ Ha! Like that’s going to make it so great. Moving back and forth in lines at the whim of the master. No rest!”
“Rest is overrated! The Lord moves in mysterious ways and he moves us as he pleases. We are but his servants” said the Bishop.
“Oh shut it! You and your lord. While he holds your kind back, we get thrown out like hay, just to get the other guy. Using us as bait and calling it mysterious!” Shouted the pawn.
“Citizen! You need to watch your tone when you speak to your superiors. The Lord Bishop may not be smart but he’s loyal. Your purpose in life is to serve our king and our master as they may please. Nothing more nothing less. Do not think you’re any better than that” the Queen shouted him down. The pawn squirmed and backed away in fear.
“Lord Knight, why do you bemoan the moves our master dignifies you with? You are a warrior and must fight like one. I don’t feign to know his plans and neither should you” the Queen fumed
The knight rose up and bowed, “Your majesty! I can be more useful to you and our King as a warrior if I were set free on the battlefield. While you move as you please, I am forced to swim in cuffs.”
A deep voice rose from behind them, “Oh the lot of you! Whining like wee babies all the time... have you ever seen me sing sagas of how my life is miserable?”
“Your majesty!” They all knelt as the King walked in.
“It’s an honest living. We live our lives as the master directs. Going this way or that. What’s important is that we get to move. Hey do you think I enjoy moving one step at a time in front of our wily enemies? Hiding behind the lot of you? What kind of a king does that make me? I would live to charge at the head of armies and here I am hiding behind the skirts of my queen!” he bellowed.
There was suddenly a loud sound and light crept in on the chamber. The king shouted as he looked up “Chin up my friends! It’s time for battle!”
Rahul opened the box and looked at the pieces . He picked up the board and set the game, smiling at his friend across the table “Ready to lose again?”
